Record Catches

Seabird Charters has an impressive list of record catches including the first female angler to land a bluefin at 240kg (2004). We have also caught three of the heaviest fish for a season in New Zealand with 321kg, 325kg & 341kg.

Fully Catered

Spend a full day and night abord the Seabird Charters vessel with a full galley, shower, toilet and accommodation. We accommodate for up to 5 anglers in comfort and provide all the gear for an enjoyable time fishing.

Full Day Adventures

We specialise in 24 hour trips out of Greymouth and Westport with the best fishing happening during the night, but can stay out longer by request. It is truely an unforgettable adrenaline-pumping experience.

A Once In A Lifetime Experience

Seabird Charters helped to pioneer the bluefin tuna fishery in New Zealand back in 2004 and have an impressive record of catching record size fish, having recently caught the largest bluefin ever off the West Coast of New Zealand (341kg). We specialise in 24 hour trips out of Westport and Greymouth but can stay out longer by request, with the most productive fishing during the night hours. All trips are fully catered, with all fishing gear provided. We will even clean any fish you land at no extra cost to you.

Bluefin Tuna Fishing

If we have spare time, then the area is also great for bottom fishing including bluenone, puka, trumpeter and ling. Our vessel, the "M.V. Cappy" has an offshore survey and the skipper, Barry Bird, has a New Zealand Offshore Masters qualification. We know the fishery, we know the fish, and we know how to catch them!

We accommodate for up to five anglers and bookings will be confirmed upon receiving a deposit, which will be fully refunded in the event that the charter is cancelled because of weather or a breakdown. All possible efforts will be made by the crew to get you out on the water.

We strongly support tag and release fishing and will only allow a maximum of one fish landed per trip, subject to the availability of amateur quota.
